MONUMENT HEAD TWO
Bronze
2004
15" X 25" X 12"
edition 40
Within the boundaries of the Vicksburg National
Military Park one can drive by over 1000 monuments and markers
honoring the participation of citizens of these now United
States of America. In none of them would the visitor see this
man or any other black man . . . until now. This monument
COMMEMORATING THE SERVICE OF THE 1ST AND 3RD INFANTRY REGIMENTS,
AFRICAN DESCENT, AND ALL MISSISSIPPIANS OF AFRICAN DESCENT
WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE VICKSBURG CAMPAIGN singularly changed
that for all time. This piece was completed in that flash
of chaos the same night that MONUMENTAL HEAD ONE was
born.
