BEARING ONE
ANOTHER'S BURDENS

Bronze
2005
12" X 12"

In 2005, just before Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Gulf coast and the mouth of the Mississippi River, I was contacted by the Pine Grove treatment center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They were interested in an outdoor sculpture installation to be installed at the entry way to a new spiritual retreat center and outdoor cathedral space on their campus. The charge was to communicate in a three dimensional form the human dilemma of feeling overwhelmed with the various stumbling blocks, discouragements, and addictions so prevalent in this human condition. Beyond that, the design would celebrate and encourage the importance of a supporting cast of loved ones and others, those people in our lives who remind us we are to bear one another’s burdens.
