BOO FERRIS
Bronze
2005
12” x 8” x 12”

This is a life size figure of the Mississippi baseball legend Dave “Boo” Ferriss. Designed for the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, the bronze figure portrays Ferriss in his Boston Red Sox uniform from his playing days in the late 1940’s. He went on to be a legendary baseball coach and mentor to hundreds of young men at Delta State University. This trophy is presented each year to the Mississippi Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year.

An ambidextrous athlete, Ferriss once pitched the first game of a double header right handed then played game two as a left handed first basemen. One fella along the first base fence line bet another $10 that it was the same player. After the game, the two men approached Boo who replied, “Sorry, partner, I did pitch the first game and with my right hand. Guess you just lost $10.”
